Public meeting scheduled May 16 for proposed Kaneka Street project

LĪHU‘E —The Department of Public Works will hold a public information meeting on May 16 at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School cafeteria to discuss proposed road striping and safety improvements to Kaneka Street. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. 

The meeting will discuss Kaneka Street's existing configuration, current safety concerns, and the proposed improvements. These include adding crosswalks and bike lanes and reconfiguring Kaneka Street from a four-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway consisting of two through lanes and a center turn lane. Engineering Division staff will be present to address the community’s questions and receive public input. 

All interested members of the community are encouraged to attend the event.  A project map is provided below.
