Traffic incident in Hanapēpē results in roadway closure

HANAPĒPĒ – A traffic incident that occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m on Friday resulted in the closure of Kaumualiʻi Highway in Hanapēpē.
On Apr. 5, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a green Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head on with a Yamaguchi School Bus.
The driver of the Toyota, a 69-year-old female of Kekaha, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released at the scene by responding medics.
The driver of the school bus and a single juvenile passenger did not report any injuries.
Traffic on Kaumuali‘i Highway was alternated for approximately 45 minutes. Once a tow truck arrived, the roadway was closed for approximately 25 minutes as crews worked to clear both vehicles from the roadway.
The crash remains under police investigation.
