WAIMEA – The County of Kauaʻi Housing Agency is kicking-off the planning process for the affordable housing component of the Waimea 400 project.

In January 2022, the County published the Waimea 400 Master Plan, laying out the conceptual design and preferred uses of the 417-acre parcel acquired by the County in 2019. The master plan is the culmination of the knowledge, ideas, and input from community residents, agencies, and resource partners. Based on previous community feedback, affordable housing will comprise roughly 60 acres of the site, just west of Waimea Sunset subdivision.

The County is seeking public input to help guide the early efforts of this affordable housing project. Community members are encouraged to complete the community survey and sign up for email updates on the project website: https://www.waimea400housing.com/.

“We are excited to take this next step forward in the Waimea 400 initiative as we all understand there is a critical need for more affordable housing here on Kaua‘i,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. “Mahalo to our entire county team for your commitment to this project, while continuing to honor our west-side community’s desires in preserving the unique characteristics of historic Waimea Town.”
