6 a.m., Sept. 19, Wainiha brush fire update

WAINIHA – Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel continue to monitor a brush fire on a ridge above Wainiha Powerhouse Road. Officials estimated the size of the fire to be 20 acres.
Response
The current fire is currently inaccessible to fire personnel due to the terrain, with the smaller fizzling out overnight. However, Air 1 will make water drops at 7 a.m. to the area.
Fire crews kept watch overnight, and have command post at Camp Naue. Fire personnel are also patrolling Wainiha Powerhouse Road and the Hā‘ena area.
Advisories/traffic notices
Officials received reports of smoke entering homes in the area. However, there are no road closures or fire threats to homes at this time.
Resources
Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Tanker 1, the on-duty Battalion Chief, private landowners, and the Kaua‘i Police Department are responding to the incident.
Emergency personnel with the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency are also on standby if additional support is needed.
According to a preliminary report, the fire was reported at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
