Deceased Man Found at Nōmilu Fishpond on Sept. 9

KALĀHEO - On September 9, 2026, first responders found a deceased man along the ocean shoreline fronting the Nōmilu Fishpond. The victim has been identified as a 74-year-old man from Kalāheo. His name is not available for release at this time.

On Sept. 8 at approximately 9 a.m., following Hurricane Lowell’s impact on Kauaʻi, first responders were dispatched to the Nōmilu Fishpond area after receiving reports of a missing person. Personnel from the Kauaʻi Police Department, Kauaʻi Fire Department, and Department of Land and Natural Resources searched the area but did not locate him.

On Sept. 9 at approximately 12:45 p.m., the victim was located and was found deceased.

Officials believe the death was related to the storm surge from Hurricane Lowell which occurred in the area that the victim was found. An autopsy is pending to confirm the exact cause, but foul play is not suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Kauaʻi Police Department extends its condolences to the victimʻs family and loved ones during this time.
