Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Saturday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 51-year-old male California visitor from Kalalau Trail on Saturday, March 22, with apparent shoulder injury, caused by a fall.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday.

First responders arrived on scene at the Hanakoa landing zone and discovered the hiker. Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and loaded him into the helicopter, where he was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly after 4:50 p.m.
