Kauai Emergency Management Agency News Release

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters have extinguished two brush fires in the Pakala area, in the vicinity of Kaumualii Highway mile markers 21 and 22. 

The first fire is estimated to be 200 yards by 15 yards; the second fire was a smaller fire approximately 1 mile to the east of the larger.

No injuries or damaged structures have been reported. 

The fire was reported shortly after 2:15 p.m.

Response

KFD personnel have extinguished the two brush fires in the vicinity of Kaumualii Highway mile markers 21 and 22. 

Assets

KFD personnel is wrapping up and releasing all units shortly.

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the incident. 

Road closures

Kaumualii Highway has opened to alternating traffic near mile markers 21 and 22. Westbound lane remains closed due to a compromised utility pole.
