Utility Incident Prompts Closure of Kūhiō Highway Near Leho Drive

2:20 p.m. Update: Kūhiō Highway is now open in both directions.

10:00 a.m. Update: Southbound traffic has resumed on Kūhiō Highway, while eastbound traffic remains diverted to Leho Drive.

WAILUA – Due to a utility-related incident, Kūhiō Highway is closed in both directions between North and South Leho Drive in Wailua until further notice. The closure is in place to ensure public safety as crews respond to the scene.

Traffic detours currently in effect:

  • Eastbound traffic is being diverted onto Leho Drive

  • Southbound traffic is being diverted onto either the old cane haul access road or Leho Drive

Please be advised that large, heavy, or low-clearance vehicles are not permitted on the cane haul access road.

Crews from the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative are actively working to replace the utility pole. The estimated time for repairs is approximately eight hours.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution, follow posted detours, and be alert for utility crews and emergency personnel working in the area.
