When are the tax due dates?

1st Installment Due Date: August 20th.

2nd Installment Due Date: February 20th.

How can I make a payment?

  • Payments by check can be sent by mail, paid in person; or placed in our drop box located outside the Kapule Building, at the
    Lihue Civic Center at 4444 Rice Street, Lihue, HI 96766.
    Checks should be made payable to: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
  • OR pay with cash in person at the Real Property Billing and Collections Section.

What is the Penalty Percent and Interest for late payment?

  • Penalty: One time penalty assessed at 10%.
  • Interest: Interest assessed at 1% per month.

Where can I find information on prior year taxes and how much I paid?

You can search records and tax details at http://www.kauaipropertytax.com.

Do you accept postmark as timely payment?

Yes, the postmarked date shall be honored, as opposed to the date received in our office.

What if the due date falls on a weekend or a holiday?

When the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the due date shall be the next business day. 

 

Do you have to pay your bill if your property is being appealed?

Yes, an appeal does not exempt a taxpayer from paying the full amount of their taxes owed. Penalties and interest will apply for delinquent taxes.  

 

Is there a discount for early payment?

No, there is no discount for early payments.

 

Is there a minimum tax to qualify for installments?

No, Real Property taxes are always split into two equal installments. 

 

 

Do you accept electronic payments made by taxpayer?

Yes, you may pay your Real Property Taxes via Credit Card or ACH by visiting our website at https://kauairpt.ehawaii.gov/propertytax/kauai. (Administrative Fees will apply)
