Recycling and Waste Diversion Grant Program

Fiscal Year 2026 Grant Awards:

Three grants were awarded for Fiscal Year 2026.

Ho'omalu Ke Kai - $25,000

An upcycling plastic program taking plastic from beach clean-ups and turning it into usable products such as lumber, flower pots, surfboard fins, and other to be determined items. For more information visit: hoomalukekai.com

 

Aina Ho’okupu O Kilauea - $5,000

Seeks to create a local system on Kauaʻi for reusing construction and demolition (C&D) materials by coordinating contractors, collecting usable materials, and redistributing them. This addresses the reusable portion of C&D waste in the landfill. For more information visit ainahookupuokilauea.org 

 

Garden Island Arts Council - $10,000

Organizing a community “Trashion Show”  to raise awareness about Kauaʻi’s growing waste crisis. By inviting artists to create fashion from discarded materials and showcase it on a public runway, the event uses art as a tool to inspire individual and community engagement in waste reduction.
