Tire Recycling
WHAT CAN I DO WITH OLD TIRES?
Important Reminder: Tires are banned from disposal in the landfill. All tires must be recycled.
RESIDENTS
Tires from residential sources are accepted for recycling at all County Refuse Transfer Stations free of charge. It is OK to leave rims on tires. Residents can bring up to eight (8) auto and light truck tires, or four (4) truck and high-performance tires per year. Heavy equipment tires are not accepted for recycling at the County's Refuse Transfer Stations. They must be taken to recyclers listed below. Please call ahead of time for pricing.
If you need to recycle more tires than the annual residential limit, you may take them to a private recycler.
PS&D Tires in Lihue accepts residential tires for recycling for a fee.
The cost is between $13 - $27 per tire depending on size.
For details or questions, please contact PS&D at (808) 245-9502.
When purchasing new tires, make sure to leave your old tires with the tire retailer or wholesaler you are purchasing your new tires from. According to Hawaii state law, they are required to charge a disposal fee for tires and to accept your old used tires for recycling, in a quantity equal to the number of new tires you purchase. The disposal fee cannot be discounted if you decide to keep your tires. For more information on the law or any questions about tire recycling, please call (808) 241-4841 or the State Department of Health at (808) 586-4226.
