The Committee on the Status of Women Award Julia Kailani Barzilai, Jeslieann Pavao and Chloe Inouye as the 2021 Women's History Essay Contest!

"I wrote this essay as an opportunity to celebrate the women in my life as well as all women around the world," said Barzilai. "I hope the essay contributes to the respect women receive every day."

"As a pua of Pauahi, I have explored and studied the admirable heart of Princes Bernice Pauahi Bishop and adored her ability to serve our lāhui with dignity and pride," Pavao said. "I will forever be grateful for the things my princess has provided me with. E ola ʻo Kalani, e Pauahi lani nui!"

The Kauai County Committee on the Status of Women

Develops information concerning the status of women within the County of Kauai as the State Commission on the Status of Women requires or as the Committee deems advisable. The County Committee, along with the Hawaii State Commission on Status of Women (HSCSW) works for equality for women and girls in the state by acting as a catalyst for positive change through advocacy, education, collaboration and program development.

The Committee on the Status of Women consists of not-less than 7 at-large members appointed by the Mayor to staggered 4 yr. terms. 2 Ex-Officio members include County Attorney and County Representative on the State Commission on the Status of Women.
