Responsibilities

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau is tasked with the prevention measures to reduce all fires and life-safety hazards. The primary focus of KFD Prevention is Community Risk Reduction: To actively raise public awareness of fire prevention through safety education that aggressively prevents hazardous fire and life-safety conditions from occurring. 

 

Firecracker Permit Application

To apply for a fireworks permit, please follow the instructions below. A smartphone or tablet is recommended for the application process to make uploading a photo ID easier.

  • Visit the link above and click on the “Kauai Fire Department” icon, then "Firecracker Permit" and follow prompts.
  • If approved, the permit will be emailed to you.
  • Print the permit and bring it to the Kauai Fire Department Headquarters at 4444 Rice St STE 315, Lihue HI 96766 from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm Monday through Friday to make payment of $25.00
  • Payments at the Fire Department can be made via cash or check.  Checks must be made out to; Director of Finance.
  • If payments must be made via credit card, payments must be processed at the DMV from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • If you need assistance creating a connect.kauai.gov account or don’t have a printer, Fire Department staff can assist you with applying and collecting payment.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Officials remind the public that fireworks and firecrackers may only be ignited on private property between 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
