Recycling Community Service

Below are some community service projects that our County Recycling Staff assisted with, provided for, or otherwise engaged in with agencies and residents.

Care packages for Kauai's frontline workers

Due to Covid restrictions, the recycling office needed to find new ways to contribute and perform outreach to our community.

Fortunately, in September 2020, a unique opportunity presented itself. In honor of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance project, more than 350 care packages were created for Kaua‘i hospitals’ frontline workers.

Goods, products and gift cards were donated and the packages were assembled by the Kaua‘i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) sponsored by the County of Kaua‘i Agency on Elderly Affairs.

The County’s recycling office donated aluminum spray bottles (for hand sanitizer), cotton face masks and purple reusable bags.

We were grateful for the opportunity to contribute items to such a special and worthy cause!

Kauai County Farm Fair 2019

The County of Kauai's Recycling office held their annual Recycling Education booth at the Kauai County Fair in August 2019.

Due to staffing concerns the Recycling Office requested volunteer assistance to help man the booth. Several very special volunteers stepped up. Mr. Jannik Evanoff, age 11, Miss Alina Evanoff, age 9 and Mr. Nicklas Evanoff, age 8 assisted Recycling staff over the weekend. The booth was very popular with the public and the children were vital to this success.

The County of Kauai's recycling office is incredibly grateful for the Evanoff family's enthusiasm and contributions towards a successful weekend for the booth. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities with the County's Recycling Office, please contact Keola Aki, Acting Solid Waste Programs Coordinator, at 241-4195 or kaki@kauai.gov.
