Kauaʿi police to host summer camp for aspiring investigators

LĪHUʿE – Kauaʿi police will host its first summer camp for incoming high school juniors to outgoing seniors. The 2022 Kauaʿi Police Department Police (KPD) Investigations and Forensic Science Camp will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 21 to 23, and 8 a.m. to noon, June 24 at KPD’s Līhuʿe headquarters, 3990 Kaʿana Street.

KPD collects 200 pounds of unused medication at Drug Take Back Day

LĪHU‘E – This weekend’s National Drug Take Back Day, hosted by the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), resulted in a total of 15 boxes filled with unused, unwanted and expired medications, adding up to a combined weight of 200 pounds. The boxes will now be sent to Oʿahu for proper disposal.

KPD receives law enforcement reaccreditation award from CALEA®

LĪHU‘E – The Kauaʿi Police Department (KPD) received a law enforcement reaccreditation award that is considered the “Gold Standard in Public Safety” from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®) on November 13. This prestigious international award recognizes professional excellence in law enforcement and is only granted to police departments that choose to undergo an accreditation process in which all criteria for management, safety, and service and delivery must be demonstrated.

KPD Dispatch’s Communications Center undergoes complete renovation

LĪHU‘E – Kauaʽi Police Department dispatchers will move into a newly renovated Communications Center at the Līhuʿe Headquarters on Wednesday. For the past three months, as renovations and upgrades were underway, dispatchers worked from a temporary location while continuing to service all calls uninterrupted through 911 and the non-emergency line.

KPD celebrates Forensic Nurses Week 2020

LĪHU‘E – Kaua‘i police held a special ceremony on Monday in celebration of Forensic Nurses Week, which occurs Nov. 9-13, 2020. The Kaua‘i Police Department’s five forensic nurses–Jennifer Antony, Stephanie Huhn, Marlo Alaipalelei, Charlene Ono and Ceisha Judd–were honored with certificates and their work was paid tribute to by a number of people, including Chief of Police Todd G. Raybuck, Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami and Council Chair Arryl Kaneshiro.
